Vesper Marine

Marine Radio

Vesper approached Globex with an idea to re-imagine a 2-way marine radio, in terms of what it looks like and what it is capable of. Globex acted as Vesper Marine's in-house mechanical development team, managing everything from specifications and background research through to production jig design and tooling approval. Globex was involved from start to finish.

There was a long list of technical challenges and creative solutions for this project. One highlight was utilising a thermally conductive polymer to form the injection-moulded main housing of the electronics hub. This material allowed us to drive high power electrical components without relying on multiple materials and sealing surfaces in an aggressive marine application. The handset featured multiple levels of insert-moulded and over-moulded plastic parts to create a fully waterproof device that maintains a slim form factor.

In addition to the concept development and initial design, Globex supported Vesper Marine with test planning, CFD/FEA simulations, and the design and operation of multiple test systems including thermal, chemical compatibility, and simulated lifecycle tests. After the design was validated, we assisted with tooling approvals, assembly jig design, and preliminary manufacturing setup.
