Lumi Drug Scan enables front-line responders to quickly and securely analyse and identify suspected drug samples in the field in real-time using the Lumi Nano spectrometry device. Providing actionable identification data within seconds supports crucial decision-making and leads to better outcomes in the field.
PHF Science, the New Zealand Forensic Science organisation, partnered with Globex to develop the Lumi Nano device as a purpose-built product supporting law enforcement and first responders. The situations where this product is used can be challenging. That last thing that a user wants to deal with is a complicated process. They need a product that is easy to use, provides clear results, and functions in a wide range of environments. Simplicity and reliability are key.
Packing high-tech and sensitive spectrometry equipment into a product destined for field-use is a significant engineering challenge. Globex worked with the PHF team from the product’s inception, helping coordinate everything from initial brainstorming and industrial design through laboratory certification testing and field trial assembly. We even built a physical prototype that was presented in Parliament as an example of effective science commercialisation.
The Lumi Nano device is designed to keep dust and water out while also protecting its precision electronics from the inevitable knocks and drops that will come from front-line use.
